Children's National Medical Center is Hiring a Biostatistician Near Silver Spring, MD

DescriptionThe Biostatistician will be an assistant, associate or full professor level position depending on current rank and experience. The Biostatistician will collaborate with investigators on all facets of the research process from study design and proposal development, study conduct and information management, data analysis and results interpretation, as well as to develop research papers from study results. The Biostatistician will have extensive training and experience in each of the above research steps. Will have a broad understanding of biomedicine and have excellent communications skills to be able to understand and communicate effectively with investigators. In addition, s/he must have knowledge of Biostatistics/Epidemiology and Informatics to be able to translate investigator needs to technical staff e.g. data analysis. Finally, s/he must have a good organizational and time management skills to be able to manage simultaneous and competing demands from a number of supported projects.
Qualifications

Minimum Education
Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) Doctoral degree level training in statistics, biostatistics, or epidemiology (Required)
Minimum Work Experience
3 years In each of these areas: Grant Development, Methodological Support of all facets of clinical research, Data analysis, and Scientific Publication. (Required)
Functional Accountabilities
Conduct of Research

  • Consistently demonstrate adherence with the standards for the responsible conduct of research.
  • Maintain confidentiality of data as required.
  • Plan, conduct, and manage research and/or research intervention projects within the federal and institutional regulations and policies in collaboration with a principal investigator.
  • Responsible for appropriate use of research funds and resources.

Study Design Support

  • Support investigators with the development of study aims and research hypotheses.
  • Provide design suggestions and alternatives to investigators for answering their aims including assessment of appropriateness and feasibility.
  • Participate in grant writing as a collaborator with the principal investigator and write the statistical considerations section of a grant or a statistical core for larger grants such as program projects or center grants
  • Develop the statistical considerations and analysis methods and the sample size considerations for a study. May supervise a staff statistician for actual calculations.
  • Guide the data management team regarding proposed study in terms of database design.
  • Review electronic case report form design to ensure that all evaluations in the study are being captured correctly in the case report forms.

Data Analysis

  • Develop the detailed statistical analysis plan (SAP) based on the Division's Standard Operating Procedure for all studies requiring a plan.
  • Perform or oversee a staff biostatistician performing statistical analyses and produce graphs.
  • Summarize results and write technical reports to be provided to investigators, as well as write applicable sections (methods, results) for papers.
  • Assist investigators with the implementation of analysis plans and the interpretation of results in preparation for publications of research findings.
  • Collaborate in producing manuscripts and conference presentations.

Methodological Research

  • Develop new methods or new applications for existing methods and new research, independently or collaboratively with other methodologists.
  • Present in regional or national/international conferences in biostatistics, epidemiology, clinical trials, or public health.

Contribution to the Profession

  • Participate in peer reviews for journals and review sections.
  • Participate in Data and Safety Monitoring Boards or other oversight committees as the biostatistician member.
  • Be a member of professional associations and when appropriate, contribute expertise and effort to associations.
  • Anticipate and responds to customer needs; follows up until needs are met
